We take a look at the massive growth of Amapiano in London over the past year and one of the key players instrumental in it.
Bobby Davis & The Rise of Ama

Amapiano has seen a massive growth over the past year, with more and more gigs, festivals and events taking place around the music. Originally hailing from South Africa, the cult has now found its way over to the shores of the UK and can literally be heard playing in every barber shop, restaurant and social gathering in the urban scene.
One of the most prominent names began with Kabza De Small who was one of the first artists to lay vocals over Amapiano beats. Tons of songs have since emerged and the West have even joined in, with various artists releasing their own versions of the genre showing that the genre has now breached all borders.

On the TikTok social media platform for instance, the #amapiano hashtag stands at more than 570 million views and shares of global streams on the AmaPianoGrooves playlist on Spotify have increased 116% globally over the past year.

Then there is Bobby Davis, a London based DJ and event organiser. Originally focusing on House and Tech House music for the past decade, the DJ has now moved to Amapiano, performing at various clubs in the UK, alongside a growing army of popular musicians and artists. His latest outfit 'Everything Is Rhythm' has been making waves now since the summer of this year with loads more planned for the months ahead. He has even teamed up with one of the biggest Ama event planners for the official festival set to be held next year. I am trying to book my plane tickets for this myself! It amazes me how one can find time to do so much and fit all these things in. From running events, working on new music releases, hosting radio shows, live streams and more. However, Bobby Davis shows that it is possible, and working with the right people is a key part in this. Finding the right connections so that you can work together is important.

If you just look on Instagram alone under the Ama hashtag you'll be overloaded with numerous dance crazes, moves, events and parties all paying homage to the Ama cult. And that's what it is exactly. It seems to be more than just music, but an actual movement; you can see the emotion in the revellers when they are dancing or watching their favourite DJ play. The music itself is quite simplistic in nature, which kind of adds to the effect of it all.
It's not long before I will soon attend my first Ama party so I can experience it properly myself.
